MONROVIA, October 6, 2026 — The University of Liberia has submitted a US$61.6 million draft budget for 2027 to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
UL President Dr. Layli Maparyan presented the proposal at an executive budget hearing, saying it prioritizes faculty, staff and student support, building renovation, and academic and administrative reforms.
She said the proposal follows the university’s five-year strategic plan, built around infrastructure, restoring UL’s flagship status, academic excellence, administrative efficiency and student success. “As a flagship university, it’s important that we are a research university,” Maparyan said.
Maparyan noted US$6.35 million in 2026 government funding under the Public Sector Investment Plan to begin renovation, modernization and beautification at the Capitol Hill and Medical College campuses.
Finance Minister Augustine Ngafuan said government remains committed to supporting UL’s plan, while noting competing national priorities. He also urged the administration to prioritize quality and produce graduates able to lead and solve Liberia’s development needs.
